FlyMango, as Mango Airlines is often referred to given their website address (www.flymango.com), is a leading South African low cost carrier fully owned by South African Airways, the national flag carrier airline.

Established in 2006, FlyMango has become associated with cheap flights and a comfortable, reliable flying experience. It's also been blamed for the demise of numerous private owned low cost airlines, given its deep-pocketed state backing.

Fleet

Being a low cost airline, Mango's fleet consists of 7 Boeing 737s with high seating density. Each of these aircraft can carry up to 186 passengers. Their two new B737-800s will feature an additional 6cm and 7.5cm worth of legroom, making the flying experience aboard these aircraft even more comfortable.

By 2012, FlyMango was carrying over 1.6 million passengers per year. South African Airways' technical department is responsible for the maintenance of the Fly Mango Fleet, ensuring that high reliability and safety standards are adhered to at all times.

Flight Destinations

Headquartered at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, Mango offers frequent flights to Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Durban, George, Port Elizabeth and Zanzibar. Fly Mango Flights to Lanseria are also frequently opted for by businesspeople travelling to the North of Johannesburg.

Baggage allowance

The standard baggage allowance on Fly Mango flights is 20kg, however Fly Mango Plus guests can check in luggage weighing up to 30kg. The maximum weight limit for carry-on luggage is 7kg (1 piece of luggage plus a handbag, briefcase, or laptop bag).

The FlyMango in-flight experience

FlyMango's in-flight experience is pleasant and distinctly South African, from the lively livery to the tongue-in-cheek in-flight magazine. Being a low cost carrier, seating spaces is at a bit of a premium, yet given that Mango flies almost exclusively on domestic routes, most flights' duration is less than two hours, making this a non-issue.

To keep costs down to a minimum, refreshments and snacks sold on board, rather than being included in the price of the flight ticket. FlyMango TV provides additional in-flight entertainment, and passengers also have the option of using Mango WiFi. All Fly Mango planes are now WiFi equipped, and offer lines speeds of up to 4Mbps. This makes FlyMango the ideal airline choice for business travellers who want to make the most of their travel time.
