Etihad Airways, frequently referred to simply as Etihad, is the flag carrier of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Founded in 2003 and headquartered in Abu Dhabi, Etihad operates more than 1000 scheduled flights to around 100 passenger and cargo destinations across Africa, Europe, Australia, the US and South America, as well as the Middle East.
Etihad Airways is the 4th largest airline in the Middle East, and is the second-largest airline in the UAE (Dubai based Emirates is the biggest). In addition to its core offering of passenger flights, the airline also operates Etihad Cargo and Etihad Holidays. The airline has received more than 30 industry awards for excellence since its establishment in 2003, including World's Leading Airline (2009) and numerous Best First Class Airline (Skytrax 2013).
The name Etihad is derived from the Arabic word for union, and the airline's slogan is "From Abu Dhabi to the World".
Etihad's operations hinge significantly on its equity alliance, which consists of the following equity stakeholdings: Air Berlin (29.21%), Jet Airways (24%), Air Serbia (49%), Air Seychelles (40%), Aer Lingus (4.1%), Darwin Airline (100%) and Virgin Australia (19.9%).
