Low cost carrier Skywise is set to take to the skies in less than 5 days. The airline is the latest entrant into the budget airline space in SA, and will be operating scheduled flights along the Cape Town to Johannesburg (OR Tambo) route upon launch. The airline’s launch will come as welcome news to South African air travellers. As was the case with SA’s most recent low cost contender, FlySafair, Skywise also faced many legal and regulatory challenges in entering the market. Tickets are to go on sale on 11 February, with the first flight scheduled for 16 March 2015.
Skywise is the brain child of former 1time airline founders Michael Kaminski and Glenn Orsmond. The airline, unlike FlySafair, won’t be charging for luggage, but will still follow the no-frills formula in terms of selling snacks and drinks on board. The airline plans to operated 5 scheduled return flights per day along their launch route. The airline will be operating a fleet of 2 two Boeing 737-300 planes, and according to its founders, their flight prices should be lower than the ones currently on offer from other low cost airlines.
