South African low cost carrier FlySafair recently beat Skywise in overcoming a critical barrier to entry into the South African LCC market – getting its air service license renewed. Skywise, on the other hand, had their request for a license extension declined.
While Skywise has experienced a number of legal and regulatory setbacks during the past year, yet the executive team, which also built the 1Time Airline brand, remain hopeful.
Skywise CEO Rodney James is quoted as saying that “it’s obviously a big blow…but we are looking at our options.”
As it stands, Skywise is still in the process of obtaining the requisite Air Operator Certificate from the Civil Aviation Authority, a fairly extensive 5-phase process.
